Kamoka Pearl Farm Moorings (Ahe)

14° 28.9′ S · 146° 22.1′ W · approximate

Tahiti-style moorings tied to coral heads around the Kamoka pearl house, in about 20 m of water, offered free to visiting boats.

Practical

Approximate: placed at the pearl farm; the moorings are at the house and the grafting shack. As described in 2017: 2 Tahiti-tie moorings at the house for boats up to 55 ft, protected NE to SE by the coral head and house; one at the grafting shack on a coral head almost half a mile from shore (NE-SE protection, more privacy); one close to the pearl house for SW-NW storms. Lines and oyster buoys are attached to coral heads that reach the surface while the water around is about 20 m deep; not for the faint-hearted, and dive your mooring before leaving the boat or sleeping (2021). Moorings are often occupied by friends of the family, so email Patrick first. Do not anchor anywhere near the farm: oyster stations cover most of the area. Approach: keep to port entering the pass, follow the village channel to the 2nd red marker (14°29.188'S 146°21.334'W), then head west through a mostly buoy-free channel, keeping south of the oyster shack.
