Hane Sea Museum and Craft Centre
8° 55.4′ S · 139° 32.1′ W
A small museum of traditional fishing gear, hooks and a collection of outrigger canoes from different eras, built by curator Joseph Vaatete. A craft centre next door sells carvings.
Practical
Coordinate from OpenStreetMap (Musée de la Mer, with the Centre artisanal next door). Jacaranda (2015): a small museum with some old canoes and a craft store. Opening hours vary, so ask at the Vaipaee mairie or locally before going. Lonely Planet: each of the three villages has a craft exhibition-and-sales centre. Chugach (2019) noted the craft centre and sea museum in Hane but did not visit. sy-maya (2020) found Marquesan crafts (small tikis, tapa, jewellery) cheaper on Ua Huka than on other islands.
