Apataki Carenage Boatyard

15° 33.5′ S · 146° 14.5′ W

The only haul-out, repair and storage yard in the Tuamotus: a family-run yard on Motu Totoro on Apataki's SE side where a hydraulic trailer drags boats up a ramp to a palm-shaded gravel pad, and where many cruisers leave their boats for the cyclone season.

Practical

Location given in the compendium as '15.335S / 146.145W', i.e. 15°33.5'S 146°14.5'W, off Motu Totoro. Contacts listed in the compendium: +689 87 72 78 13, +689 87 71 61 39, apatakicarenageservices@gmail.com (verify locally). Hours listed Mon-Fri 7:30-11:30 am and 1:30-5 pm. The yard's own site advertises haul-out up to 20 t, winter storage, lagoon mooring, internet and repair work by their team; the compendium notes a 16 t limit and a draft limit of about 2 m on the ramp (depends on tide), so email ahead with LOA, beam, draft and weight. 2024 rates reported Feb 2025: haul, block, pressure-wash and relaunch (4 days) 1,835 XPF/ft monohull, 1,955 XPF/ft catamaran (cats over 45 ft +20-25%), mandatory insurance charge; 97 XPF/ft/day weeks 1-3, 70 XPF/ft/day from week 4; long-term storage from 1,445 XPF/ft/month mono, 2,139 XPF/ft/month cat. Cautions from the compendium: it cannot haul in strong NE winds; it is mostly do-it-yourself with no diesel mechanic on the atoll; only one lift, so a breakdown can strand you; parts come from Tahiti by the weekly Cobia supply ship or by air, so allow a week or more. Facilities reported: toilets, showers, washing machines, Wi-Fi, limited paint/resin/epoxy, cooking-gas transfer, limited diesel and gasoline (2016 prices 156-159 XPF/l), eggs, a vegetable garden. Get prices in writing before work starts (2010 billing dispute reported). Mosquitoes are bad in the yard.
