Apataki Carenage Anchorage
15° 33.6′ S · 146° 14.9′ W
The anchorage off the boatyard on Apataki's SE motus: sand under 30 ft in the lee of the trade-wind motus, with fewer bommies than at the village and the yard family ashore.
Practical
Position 15°33.612'S 146°14.907'W (Sugar Shack, Sept 2019); other fixes 15°33.534'S 146°14.628'W in 24 ft (Nakia 2010) and 15°33.412'S 146°14.504'W (Irene 2017). Sheltered from the trades. The yard has had free moorings (4-5 reported 2011-2015); availability now unclear, ask on arrival. Coral heads in the last half mile before the yard, some marked by rebar; approach in good light. Jacaranda's waypoint in front of the yard: 15°33.523'S 146°14.911'W. No live-aboard fee for anchored boats was reported in 2016. Good snorkeling at the yard 'marina' and on a reef marked by a stick about 1 nm NW (OCC 2015).
