Amanu Southern Sand Spit Anchorage

17° 54.7′ S · 140° 50.5′ W

An anchorage on a sand spit off the motus of Amanu's southern edge.

Practical

Fellow Traveler (May 2010): 17°54.72S / 140°50.5W. A sand spit runs north then west from the motus; 18 ft on top, a bit deeper between the spit and shore. Two very shallow coral heads lie at the east end of the spit, so circle them in deep water. Many coral heads on the spit top will tangle the chain if the wind veers, but there is room to swing clear of anything dangerous for a 6.5 ft draft. Duplicat called it good but noted lots of rats ashore. This is an older report.
