Whipray Caye (Wippari) Moorings

16° 32.3′ N · 88° 13.2′ W · approximate

A one-acre coral-fringed caye about 8 miles from Placencia, home of the Whipray Caye Fishing Lodge and the Sea Urchin bar, and a legendary spot to hire a guide for permit on fly.

Practical

Position approximate: just west of the lodge (OpenStreetMap). Two mooring buoys on the west side maintained by the lodge; anchoring is tricky among coral heads - put someone in the water to find sand (Yacht Warriors). SAIL magazine counted two moorings and coral heads with no lights or marks, and Viper Rocks, a line of coral heads, lies south of the caye. Family-style fixed-price dinner at the Sea Urchin; reserve if not a lodge guest. Fly-fishing guides (the Cabral brothers) can be arranged (Moorings eGuide). Eagle rays and turtles nearby.
