Lagoon Cayes Anchorage

16° 37.9′ N · 88° 12.3′ W · approximate

A pair of kidney-shaped mangrove cayes enclosing a lagoon that is a favourite hidey-hole in strong winds, protected from northeast to southeast.

Practical

Position approximate: placed just outside Lagoon Caye's OpenStreetMap outline near the lagoon; locate the entrance by eye. Read the water to the entrance, cross a 10 ft bar into 20+ ft, then anchor in about 9 ft after the second bar; good holding near the entrance, shallow drafts can go further in. A mooring ball outside the entrance - check its lines. Easy snorkelling on brain coral and sea fans; coral heads to the south and windward (Yacht Warriors).
