Tintipán Mangrove Plankton Night Tour

9° 47.7′ N · 75° 51.3′ W · approximate

Tintipán's hotels run night boat trips into the island's mangrove channels to swim among bioluminescent plankton - San Bernardo's answer to Isla Grande's Enchanted Lagoon.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: placed at the official Ciénaga de Tintipán anchoring waypoint (A18), inside the mangrove lagoon these tours visit; routes vary by hotel. Tom Plan My Trip (Tintipán, updated May 2026): hotels offer evening boat rides around the mangroves and El Embrujo runs plankton swims in the mangrove behind the hotel; on Múcura the same phenomenon is 'even more astonishing on moonless nights'. Semana (2025) describes night tours to see the bioluminescent plankton and asks visitors to take them calmly to protect the ecosystem. Book through a waterfront hotel during the day and pay cash (no ATMs in the archipelago). Paddle or idle - no wake in the mangrove channels.
