San Bernardo Provisioning: Fuel, Water, Ice & Cash

9° 47.3′ N · 75° 50.9′ W · approximate

There is no fuel dock, chandlery or yacht water point anywhere in the San Bernardo islands or the Gulf of Morrosquillo towns - arrive full from Cartagena and treat the islands as a self-sufficient stop.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: placed at the Tintipán South anchorage (waypoint A16), the usual base. Fuel: the national cruising guide says none of the Gulf of Morrosquillo towns has yacht facilities, only small spare parts in Tolú, and the seabed is too shallow for sailboats to berth at Tolú's tour docks (dinghies occasionally land along Avenida Primera); top up in Cartagena first - the Club de Pesca fuel dock (VHF 71) sells diesel, gasoline, lubricants, ice and water (Cruiser's Guide). Any gasoline or diesel in the islands or Tolú would be by jerry can from a local boatman - ask locally and filter it. Water: island tap water is not drinkable - buy bottled (Tom Plan My Trip, Múcura); supply and power cuts are common on Tintipán and Múcura; Santa Cruz del Islote's fresh water is delivered by the Colombian Navy, so don't ask to fill tanks there. Ice and drinks: buy from hotel or beach restaurants on Tintipán, Múcura (Punta Faro) or the Islote - confirm locally; carry your own ice and frozen stores from Cartagena. Food: hotel restaurants (Sal Si Puedes, El Embrujo, Punta Norte, Hotel Tintipán) and two public-beach seafood shacks on Tintipán. Cash: no ATMs in the archipelago or in Rincón del Mar, cards rarely accepted - bring Colombian pesos for the whole stay.
