Puerto Real (Cabo Rojo)

18° 4.5′ N · 67° 11.3′ W · approximate

A small, landlocked fishing harbor 8 nm south of Mayagüez with a marina (Marina Pescadería) and a very secure anchorage. Cruisers overlook it, but it is a good alternative to Boquerón.

Practical

Position approx: the NOAA Puerto Real tide-gauge position (station 9759189) inside the harbor. Per the Virgintino PR guide (~2015): three pairs of red/green buoys mark the entrance channel, averaging 15 ft; mud bottom; tidal range about 1 ft. Anchor on the SW side of the marina in 10 ft. Marina Pescadería had showers, free Wi-Fi and repair help, answered VHF 68, and its owner was an SSCA station host. Verify that the marina is still operating and its contacts before relying on it. Not to be confused with the CBP site 'Puerto Real Municipal Pier' in Fajardo on the east coast.

Best for

A quiet, secure harbor on the west coast
