Pascual Bight Anchorage (Barbareta)

16° 26.1′ N · 86° 8.9′ W

A gloriously peaceful anchorage inside the reef on the south side of Barbareta, east of Roatán — shallow sand and grass, a reef to snorkel and agoutis in the forest ashore.

Practical

Waypoints from OCC cruisers Coral Moon: pass the outer reef due south of the island's high point; the inner reef has an ~8 m-deep passage from 16°25.89'N 86°09.02'W to 16°26.08'N 86°08.88'W (this coordinate). Anchor in about 4 m; holding good in shallow grass and sand. Snorkel the reef east of the cut. The island was described as a reserve with a US$10/head entry fee that nobody collected (mid-2000s report). The source labels the bight without naming the island; these coordinates fall on Barbareta's south coast (OSM island centroid 16.4378, -86.1457). Enter only in good overhead light. Noonsite advises care on the eastern end in the low season (crime). Island centroid and hotel: Hotel Isla Barbareta is mapped on the north side.

Best for

Remote, quiet anchorage between Roatán and Guanaja

Season

Settled easterlies; reef entry needs good light
