Port Royal Anchorage (Roatán)

16° 24.1′ N · 86° 18.7′ W · approximate

One of Roatán's quietest anchorages, behind the reef at the island's wild east end — old pirate forts and cannons in the bush, pristine reefs and a handful of off-grid homes.

Practical

Approximate position: derived from OpenStreetMap's 'Port Royal Shore' settlement (16.40587, -86.31270), offset into the harbour; not a sounded waypoint — enter only in good light with local waypoints. Cruiser notes (2008-2015, verify locally): dive buoys outside the reef, snorkelling at the Blue Hole, Horseshoe and a wreck off Fort George; walk the Camp Bay road; Mango Creek Lodge advertised 6 moorings at US$10/night with free water and Wi-Fi in 2015. Noonsite warns to cruise the eastern end with care and avoid it in the low season when crime rises.
