Mangel Halto Anchorage (Aruba)

12° 27.8′ N · 69° 58.3′ W · approximate

A tucked-away spot inside the reef at Mangel Halto, between mangroves and a reef edge that drops to over 100 m - anchor in the lagoon and dinghy out to snorkel the outer wall.

Practical

Very narrow channel for drafts up to about 1.8 m (6 ft), usually marked by at least one buoy; enter and leave only in good light so you can read the water. Approach past the Aruba Nautical Club, threading between the shoals east of Spanish Lagoon. Anchor inside the reef and take the dinghy outside for snorkelling (Aruba Cruising Guide). Mangel Halto has been a marine reserve within Marine Park Aruba since 2019, managed by Fundacion Parke Nacional Aruba (Wikipedia) - ask FPNA or Aruba Port Control about current anchoring rules in the reserve before you go. The two cuts in the reef are used by divers; the deeper one is marked by a white buoy (Wikipedia) - keep a lookout for swimmers and divers. Coordinate approx: inside the reef about 150 m off the OSM shoreline in front of Mangel Halto beach.
