Carti Sugtupu Village & Guna Museum

9° 28.2′ N · 78° 57.7′ W

Gardi Sugdub, about 400 m long and roughly 1.2 km off the mainland, is one of the most densely packed island villages in Guna Yala, with narrow sand alleys, bakery huts, mola sellers and a small Guna museum; its residents are now relocating to the mainland because of overcrowding and flooding.

Practical

Coordinate: Wikipedia 09°28'14"N 078°57'40"W. Population fell to about 100 in 2025 after some 300 families moved to Isber Yala on the mainland in June 2024 (Wikipedia). Museum entry was $5 per person in 2016 (Spirit of Argo, verify locally). In 2016 beer was sold out of the bank building in the centre of the island, with small bakeries and phone top-up sellers; few vegetables on a bad day. Many residents still wear traditional dress and sell molas. Always ask before photographing people.
