Caña Gorda Cays Anchorage (Guánica)

17° 56.6′ N · 66° 52.7′ W · approximate

The cruisers' favorite Guánica anchorage, among the Caña Gorda cays off Gilligan's Island, open to the cooling trades but sheltered from the sea by the reef.

Practical

Position approx: in open water among the cays near Cayo Aurora, checked to be in water on OpenStreetMap; pick your own spot by eye. The Virgintino PR guide (~2015) rates Punta Jacinto and the Caña Gorda cays 'excellent; good holding', but crowded and noisy on weekends. Enter via buoy #2 (17°55.20N 66°54.60W), then #3 and #4, keeping well clear of the Coral Breakers reef. Guánica town has some good restaurants.

Best for

A breezy, sheltered night between La Parguera and Ponce
