Guayanilla Bay Anchorage (west side)

17° 59.2′ N · 66° 46.7′ W · approximate

An emergency or tired-crew stop on the west side of Bahía de Guayanilla, between Guánica and Ponce; the rest of the bay is industrial.

Practical

Position approx: west part of Bahía Guayanilla, set about 0.2 nm west of the GeoNames bay position (17.98969, -66.77462). Approach waypoint per the Virgintino PR guide: 17°57.86N 66°45.77W, just south of red nun #2 at the bay entrance. Watch the reefs at the mouth (GeoNames lists Arrecife Guayanilla, Arrecife Unitas and Arrecife Fanduco). The guide calls the bay industrial with nothing to offer cruisers and says it is best skipped unless you are tired: Caña Gorda to the west and Ponce to the east are better stops. The neighboring Bahía de Tallaboa to the east is likewise industrial, and the guide gives no anchorage there.
