La Parguera Anchorage
17° 58.1′ N · 67° 2.5′ W · approximate
A reef- and mangrove-sheltered roadstead off the fishing village of La Parguera, behind a maze of more than 30 mangrove cays. Good holding, an easy town, and a bioluminescent bay a dinghy ride away.
Practical
Position approx: off the village waterfront, checked to be in water on OpenStreetMap. The Virgintino PR guide's waypoint 17°57.42N 67°02.41W marks the entrance between Cayo Enrique and Cayo La Gata. Do not enter from the west: go east until you can pass between Arrecife Media Luna and Isla Turrumote, then turn NW for the anchorage. Anchor just north of Cayo Enrique in 10 ft, or about a mile further at La Parguera in 10–15 ft; holding good and secure in most conditions. When the trades die at night, the land breeze swings your stern toward shallower water. Bahía Montalva (3 nm east) is another protected option.
Best for
