Magueyes Island Tide Station (NOAA 9759110)

17° 58.2′ N · 67° 2.8′ W

The long-running NOAA tide station on Isla Magueyes, home of the University of Puerto Rico's marine sciences lab, and the reference gauge for southwest Puerto Rico tides.

Practical

Station position from NOAA. Established December 1954; NOAA chart 25671. Datums (feet): great diurnal range (MHHW–MLLW) only 0.67 ft and mean range 0.65 ft, so the south coast is effectively tideless. Wind and swell matter far more than tide for depths at La Parguera, Boquerón and Salinas. Other nearby NOAA prediction stations: Boquerón 9759173, Puerto Real 9759189, Guánica 9758627, Ponce 9757487, Central Aguirre 9755971, Mona Island 9759938. Isla Magueyes (7.2 ha) also has a free-ranging feral Cuban iguana colony; it is a research site, so do not land without permission.
