Bocachica Village & Beach (Tierra Bomba)

10° 19.4′ N · 75° 34.9′ W

The fishermen's village at Tierra Bomba's southern tip, below the San Fernando fortress, with a modest beach and open-air seafood restaurants looking straight onto the ship channel you came in by.

Practical

OSM position for the village. The national guide: Bocachica is a native fishing village beside the San Fernando castle, reachable only by boat; its name comes from the narrow channel ships must use because of the Bocagrande escollera. Wikivoyage: local boats leave about every 30–45 minutes from the Muelle de los Pegasos (by the old city) and take about 15 minutes; the beach is modest and several open-air restaurants serve food and drinks; pay the local fare and avoid 'all included' touts. Yachts: no guide publishes an anchorage here - the village faces the buoyed Bocachica ship channel, the Port Captain wants yachts in the designated anchorages in the bay, and anchoring in the channel is not an option. Visit by water taxi from Cartagena rather than by your own boat. The Batería del Ángel San Rafael (begun 1762) sits on Cerro del Horno above the village.
