Bioluminescence in the Holandes

9° 35.3′ N · 78° 40.8′ W · approximate

On dark nights the water around the Holandes anchorages can light up with bioluminescent plankton, so every darting fish and corkscrewing worm leaves a glowing blue trail around the boat.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: Moxon's 2014 sighting came from an anchorage between two small uninhabited islands just SW of Morodup and Banedup (the Swimming Pool cays); placed nearby. He watched 40 to 50 swirling trails of light around the boat for about an hour under an overcast sky. SY Balvenie also noted 'amazing water activity at night' in the Swimming Pool. Best on moonless nights; turn off deck lights to see it.
