Banedup Anchorage (East Holandes)

9° 35.3′ N · 78° 40.9′ W

A quiet sand spot off a tiny beach islet northwest of Banedup, halfway between the Hot Tub and the Swimming Pool, where you can have the island and beach to yourselves while staying in reach of the Holandes social scene.

Practical

Position 09°35.256'N 078°40.876'W, 6 m of clear sand dropping quickly to 20 m, so let out plenty of scope; good holding (Spirit of Argo, March 2016). Snorkelling around the islet; Spirit of Argo held a beach BBQ here. Balvenie (2012) noted Banedup itself is known as 'Bug Island' for its no-see-ums and did not go ashore. In 2016 a Guna caretaker had begun charging cruisers to land on nearby BBQ Island, so check landing rules island by island. Saltwater crocodiles have been seen swimming through this part of the East Holandes (Spirit of Argo, April 2016): don't swim at dusk or let dogs ashore unattended. Covered by the Holandes/Nargana $10 per 30-day anchoring receipt reported in 2018 (verify locally). Veggie boats call at the Swimming Pool nearby.
