Bahía Nombre de Dios (Security Caution)
9° 35.4′ N · 79° 28.2′ W · approximate
The historic bay of Nombre de Dios, Spain's first Caribbean treasure port in Panama, lies halfway between Linton Bay and the San Blas, but yachts anchored here were attacked in 2019.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: just off the town of Nombre de Dios (Wikipedia 9.5829, -79.4703); check depths on your chart. In 2019 a yacht on passage from Linton Bay to the San Blas was robbed and its crew attacked while anchored overnight here; six people were later arrested and the tourism ministry ran a community programme (Noonsite). Noonsite advises that nowhere in Panama, including Guna Yala, should yachts anchor at night in remote areas without other boats. Most crews sail straight through from Linton or Portobelo to the San Blas in one day.
