Isla Grande Anchorage (Panama)

9° 37.8′ N · 79° 33.9′ W · approximate

A small, lively Afro-Caribbean island a few miles east of Puerto Lindo with clear, baby-blue water, a reef cut used by tourist skiffs, a small hotel and a couple of restaurants: a convenient first or last stop on the coastal hop to the San Blas.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: estimated from regional maps a few miles east of Linton Bay; take the anchorage from your chart. A May 2024 cruiser anchored before noon behind a small island in clear water over sea grass, with tourist skiffs running through a reef cut and a derelict catamaran with one sunken hull in the anchorage (Lowcool). Noonsite notes an Aeronaval presence at Isla Grande among the coastal anchorages patrolled after the 2019 attacks. Grass bottom: dig the anchor in carefully.
