Ambergris Cays Anchorage (TCI)

21° 18.0′ N · 71° 39.7′ W · approximate

Shallow bank anchorage in the lee between Big Ambergris Cay — a private island resort with its own airstrip — and the uninhabited wetland nature reserve of Little Ambergris Cay, 14 miles south of South Caicos.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: between the two cays; plot your own spot on a chart. Noonsite's 2015 position (21°18.56'N 071°38.16'W, itself marked 'anchorage?') falls near the island's airstrip, so it isn't used here. Very shallow sandbanks surround Little Ambergris — daylight and good light only. Big Ambergris is private (Ambergris Cay Resort); Noonsite says transient sailors may not land. Little Ambergris and Fish Cays Nature Reserve: no take. BoatTEST warns that the sector south of the Ambergris Cays around the Seal Cays is shoal-draft only. Not a port of entry. Noonsite lists some repairs at Windward Marina on Ambergris.
