Marine Farm fortification (BNT)
22° 49.3′ N · 74° 20.2′ W
A 4.4-acre Bahamas National Trust park on the ridge above Crooked Island's northwest coast: an 18th-century British battery built to guard the north entrance of the Crooked Island Passage, with five solid iron cannons bearing a royal crest, the foundations of a small military complex and a Loyalist plantation house and kitchen.
Practical
Position is the centroid of the BNT park boundary in OpenStreetMap, about 1.5 nm inland and east of the Crooked Island Marina. National park since 2002; BNT says it has little infrastructure, few trails and no warden. Frommer's says it saw action in the War of 1812 and suggests asking your hotel or the lodge to arrange the visit; go by rented car or taxi from Landrail Point and wear long trousers and closed shoes for the scrub. The slave quarters reported north of the main house have never been found.
Best for
