Little San Salvador lagoon

24° 34.4′ N · 75° 55.9′ W · approximate

The large interior lagoon of Little San Salvador, a significant waterfowl nesting area that was once proposed as a landfill. Anglers have fished it for bonefish.

Practical

Coordinate is the GeoNames centre of Little San Salvador; the lagoon fills much of the island's interior. Wikipedia notes the island is an important waterfowl nesting area and that a 1987 landfill proposal for the lagoon was rejected. Access is controlled by the island operator: ask the island manager on VHF 74 before landing, and stay on the public beach when ships are in. Earlier cruisers were shown around by staff and reported hiking trails at the north end near the horse stables (2012-2017). Do not disturb nesting birds.
