RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay beach (Little San Salvador)

24° 34.9′ N · 75° 57.4′ W · approximate

The two-mile-wide crescent of powder-white sand on Little San Salvador's west side, Carnival Corporation's private cruise island (renamed RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay in December 2024). On no-ship days it is one of the prettiest empty beaches in the Bahamas.

Practical

Coordinate is the ActiveCaptain anchorage marker off the beach. Cruise-ship-day rules as reported by cruisers: call the island on VHF 74 for permission before landing; private boaters may use only the open beach outside the roped swim areas, and the resort's facilities, food and chairs are for ship passengers; no pets ashore while a ship is in (otherwise pick up after them and pack it out); there are no trash bins for boaters, so take all rubbish back aboard. Ships usually leave by about 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, after which the beach empties. Carnival announced a new pier at North Arrival Plaza (December 2024) and a new port so ships no longer tender (June 2026); in February 2025 cruisers reported a long cruise dock being built out to deep water, working day and night, so expect construction and changed rules: keep clear of the pier and tender lanes. Check ship schedules before you go.
