Hogsty Reef Northwest Cay beach

21° 41.6′ N · 73° 50.8′ W · approximate

The tiny sand-and-rubble cay with the light on the north-west corner of Hogsty Reef, the Atlantic's only true atoll-like reef - a surreal place to stretch your legs mid-ocean.

Practical

Coordinate is the GeoNames position for Northwest Cay (the cay itself, not a surveyed landing). noforeignland's Inagua guide recommends exploring the area, including its wildlife and beach. Land by dinghy from the Hogsty Reef anchorage only in settled weather and good light - the reef is strewn with coral heads and wrecks. Seabirds nest here; keep clear of nests. No facilities of any kind.

Best for

A walk ashore in the middle of the reef on a settled-weather stop

Season
