Hawks Nest Point Anchorage
24° 9.4′ N · 75° 31.4′ W
An anchorage off the beach by the Hawk's Nest resort at Cat Island's south-west tip, with deep clean sand, crystal water and patch reefs to snorkel. It is a natural first stop after a day sail from San Salvador or Conception.
Practical
Anchor off the resort or the houses just east in about 10 ft; holding is great in deep sand with no marl, rock or coral. Good in mild southerlies and tolerable in ESE 20 kt with a small chop (2026), but some crews found no protection in a strong east and carried on to New Bight. Rays, sharks and moray eels are reported on the patch reefs. Resort WiFi is pay-to-use. Contact listed: VHF 16 or 1-242-422-6253 (2021). Several white buoys, probably fish traps, were reported about 1.5 nm west-north-west of the point in April 2026; keep a lookout when approaching at dusk. In a strong E blow a 2026 crew found an easy anchorage close in under the point with great holding.
Best for
A landfall stop at the south-west tip
Season
