Duncan Town salt ponds
22° 12.0′ N · 75° 43.5′ W
The salt pond that stretches the length of Duncan Town, developed in the 19th century by Duncan Taylor (the town's namesake) and still worked by families who harvest salt from their own plots.
Practical
Position: centroid of the OpenStreetMap salt-pond area (way 284699278) beside the settlement. Wikipedia: the salt industry peaked in the 1930s, and its decline drove emigration to Nassau and other islands. Bahamas.com: residents still harvest salt from family plots, so do not walk on the pans or take salt without asking. Easy to see on the walk from the government dock up to the store. The ISS photograph shown is public domain (NASA).
