Tavern Cay South Anchorage (Tilloo Cay)

26° 28.4′ N · 76° 59.5′ W

A large, quiet bay south of Tavern Cay under the Tilloo Cay hillside homes, easily reached from the main north-south route behind Lubbers Quarters.

Practical

Anchor in sand in about 10 ft. Well protected N through E (one report also comfortable at 160-170 deg); open S through NW. Approach: turn east off the Tilloo Bank-Tavern Cay route and work in to depth; no reported obstacles. An unmarked underwater cable crosses the bay roughly NW-SE from the blue-roofed houses on the point to the yellow house - it has snagged anchors. Grassier and poorer holding close inshore; better a little farther out. Few places to land; ironshore. Some snorkeling among rocks west and north of the spit. Sportfishing boats docked nearby have thrown big wakes (2016 report). ActiveCaptain community reports date from 2011-2019, before Hurricane Dorian (Category 5, Sept 1, 2019) hit Abaco; re-check bottom, markers and businesses locally.

Best for

Settled N-E wind night; staging for Tilloo Cut
