Rose Island South (Sandy Toes) Anchorage

25° 5.1′ N · 77° 12.4′ W

A quiet one- or two-boat spot just east of the Sandy Toes beach-club docks on Rose Island. Busy with day-trippers until mid-afternoon, then deserted.

Practical

Waterway Guide position N 25°05.067' W 077°12.450'; depths 7-9 ft. Good holding in sand, but a reviewer reports lots of weed, so look for a sand patch. Waterway Guide gives protection NW through SSW; exposed to the west and choppy in strong southerlies. The Sandy Toes tour boats leave about 3:30 pm, after which it is empty. Reviewer approach: from just east of Porgee Rock light, head 011° until just off Rose Island, then follow the shoreline to the anchorage. The beach ashore is private (Sandy Toes); pets ashore at the dock only with permission. ActiveCaptain (Rose Island pin 25.08369, -77.20887): great protection and good holding in any northerly winds; dive on the anchor to check it; 9-10 ft depth all the way to the cove entrance; it shoals quickly beyond the rocks on the south side. Pets ashore on the little cay just SE of the anchorage. This is the Bottom Harbour area on Rose Island's south side; Waterway Guide's older listing URL calls it West Bottom Harbour.

Best for

First or last night out of Nassau, 8 nm east of the harbour

Season
