25° 5.9′ N · 77° 16.3′ W
A private island 3 miles north-east of Nassau whose salt-marsh lagoon pirates once raked for salt; now a day resort with Dolphin Encounters' dolphins and sea lions, beaches and an aqua park.
Practical
Wikipedia coordinates. Day packages include boat transfer from Nassau and lunch (reservations +1 866-918-9932, info@dolphinencounters.com). Private: yachts cannot land without a booking. History: Van Winkle cut the lagoon channel and planted 5,000 palms (1902+); WWII underwater demolition training base; split by a 1991 storm, now bridged; a tour ferry sank in November 2023. For yachts, the south-west side gives emergency shelter in northers (see Salt Cay Southwest Anchorage).
