Athol Island South Anchorage
25° 4.6′ N · 77° 16.3′ W
A cove on the south side of uninhabited Athol Island, just east of Paradise Island inside the national marine park area, with a small beach used by Nassau tour boats. Surprisingly good in a cold front.
Practical
Waterway Guide position N 25°04.567' W 077°16.332'; depths 8-12 ft. Very good holding in deep sand; avoid the ridges of grass. Protected W through N (Waterway Guide rating W-NE), so it is a recognised spot to ride out a cold front despite feeling exposed east and south; in prevailing easterlies a swell bounces off the rocky shore even in light winds. A reviewer held in S winds over 20 knots within 80 ft of the coral shore, then WNW 20+. Beach on the west end of the cove; very busy at weekends with tour and watersports boats bringing snorkelers. Athol Island is part of a protected marine park (no fishing; verify current rules with the Bahamas National Trust). ActiveCaptain has a nearby pin (25.07629, -77.28061, 2024-2025) west of a floating bar with good holding in sand and mud.
