26° 38.9′ N · 77° 57.0′ W

The fishing settlement at the very eastern end of the Grand Bahama Highway, the jumping-off point for Sweetings Cay, Deep Water Cay and the ferry across to Crown Haven on Abaco, and home of the October Conch Cracking contest.

Practical

Position is the ferry landing (OpenStreetMap ferry terminal); a passenger ferry crosses to Crown Haven, Little Abaco, in about 30 minutes (Wikipedia). About two hours' drive from Freeport (SailAbacos). The settlement sits on the shallow southern edge of the Little Bahama Bank: approaches by yacht are for shoal drafts with local knowledge and good light. SailAbacos reports the Annual Conch Cracking Contest began in 1972 and runs each October (verify dates locally). Gasoline: see Petro Express East fuel station by the dock (opened 2015; post-Dorian status unconfirmed). Yellow Dog Flyfishing reported in May 2023 that the settlement was recovering, with water and power restored.
