Deep Water Cay Anchorage (East End, shoal draft)

26° 37.7′ N · 77° 56.2′ W · approximate

The East End cays (Deep Water Cay, Sweetings Cay, Lightbourn's Cay and the cays beyond) are a maze of flats and creeks with spectacular snorkeling and fishing, seldom visited by yachts. A shallow-draft boat can get in to Deep Water Cay; everything here is local-knowledge pilotage.

Practical

Position is derived: a point on open water about 0.2 nm west of Deep Water Cay and about 1.3 nm south of the McLean's Town dock, placed using OpenStreetMap coastlines; it is NOT a published anchorage and no guide publishes depths here, so treat it only as a reference point and sound your way in. THIN CHARTS: Southern Boating (2016) says the east end of Grand Bahama is seldom visited and there are no detailed charts of the area; a shallow-draft vessel can get into Deep Water Cay and explore the cays to the southeast with a little help from local fishermen. Go only in good overhead light, on a rising tide, with draft well under 5 ft. Sweetings Cay settlement (26.619 N / 77.863 W) lies about 3.5 nm ESE and Lightbourn's Cay (OpenStreetMap, about 26.588 N / 77.861 W) just south of it, across shoal banks; no anchorage positions or depths are published for either. The Deep Water Cay Club remained closed after Hurricane Dorian (Yellow Dog Flyfishing, May 2023), so expect no services on the cay; fuel and basics at McLean's Town. Open to weather from the south across the flats.
