Anchorage· Lightbourn's Cay· Bahamas — North

Lightbourn's Cay Anchorage (west side, East Grand Bahama Protected Area)

26° 35.5′ N · 77° 53.6′ W · approximate

A reference spot on the bank in the lee of Lightbourn's Cay, the largest of the uninhabited mangrove-and-flats cays south of Sweetings Cay. In prevailing easterlies the cay breaks the wind, and from here the dinghy can explore creeks and flats inside the East Grand Bahama Protected Area.

Practical

Position is derived, not published: a point in open water about 0.3 nm west of the Lightbourn's Cay shore, placed by testing it against OpenStreetMap coastlines (Lightbourn's Cay relation 10589219, which spans about 26.558 to 26.618 N). No guide publishes depths, holding or protection here; the surrounding bank is shoal and largely uncharted in detail (Southern Boating), so this is shallow-draft, local-knowledge pilotage in good light only. Expected shelter is from the east only, by geography; open to the west and south across the bank and untenable when a front brings westerlies. OpenStreetMap shows the area inside the East Grand Bahama Protected Area (boundary=national_park, start date 2015); no published rules were found, so assume national-park conduct: take nothing, anchor in sand clear of seagrass and coral. No services: fuel and basics at McLean's Town, about 5 nm north-west.
