Hawksbill Reef

25° 45.1′ N · 79° 17.5′ W · approximate

A nearly mile-long scatter of coral heads on white sand running north-south parallel to North Bimini's west shore, named for the hawksbill turtles that rest among the heads. Angelfish and moray eels are everywhere.

Practical

Position is approximate: the operator describes the reef as running parallel to North Bimini's shoreline but does not publish a position, so the point is set about 0.3 nm off the west shore at the latitude of Bimini Bay, in deeper water than Rainbow Reef. Do not navigate to it; dive it with a local operator. Depth 40-50 ft (Neal Watson's Bimini Scuba Center via Guy Harvey Outpost). Open to the Gulf Stream side: dive only in settled east or south-east weather, and expect current along the bank edge. Neal Watson's Captain's Choice two-tank dive ($160 plus 10% VAT, read October 2026) chooses sites by conditions.
