Berry Islands Bonefishing Flats (west of the Ambergris Cays)

25° 40.5′ N · 77° 50.7′ W · approximate

Miles of white-sand and turtle-grass flats on the bank side of the Berries where bonefish tail at the edges; Great Harbour Cay points fly anglers west of the Ambergris Cays, and Chub Cay calls its north-side flats some of the best bonefishing in the world.

Practical

Position approximate: a point on the flats west of the Ambergris Cay anchorage (the island site places the fly-fishing flats west of the Ambergris Cays). The second major flats area is north of Chub Cay (Chub Cay's fishing page). A Bahamas fishing permit is required for foreign vessels; flats fishing with a licensed local guide is the norm. Wade or pole on a rising tide; the flats drain at low water. Ask at Great Harbour Cay Marina or through Lost Cays Excursions for guides.
