Warderick Wells North Mooring Field

24° 23.7′ N · 76° 38.0′ W · approximate

The famous horseshoe - twenty-odd boats moored nose-to-tail in a narrow sand-bottomed channel that snakes between blinding turquoise flats, with the park office and the sperm whale skeleton on the shore beside you. Universally regarded as the best-protected spot in the entire park.

Practical

26 moorings: 19 inner (best protection) plus 3 outer that take vessels to 150 ft but are exposed to the NE. Around 6-7.5 ft MLW in the narrow channel between the outer and inner fields - a genuine draft constraint, so time your entry for a rising tide. NO ANCHORING permitted in the north field. Mooring assignment: the park announces on VHF 16 at 09:00 sharp that it is taking requests on VHF 09; switch to 09 and say your boat name three times, then wait to be called back in order. No reservations, first-come first-served, 24-hour waiting list. Fees from BSD $27.27/night + 10% VAT; pay at the office, drop box, or ParkPay. Fills instantly when a front is forecast. Reversing 1.5-2 kt current - expect the boat to lie every direction over 12 hours.
