Whittier Harbor (Whittier)

60° 46.7′ N · 148° 41.4′ W

The city-run small boat harbor is the gateway to western Prince William Sound, with transient moorage, a fuel dock and the Anton Anderson tunnel to the road system. It is first come, first served, and hundreds of boats are moored here.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM marina polygon. The city counts 360 slips (Marinas.com says 350). City rules: transient moorage is first come, first served, priced by vessel length and paid in advance; boats staying October 1 to March 31 need a local, licensed and insured boat-watch agent, and a vessel moored 90 days or more is subject to Whittier personal property tax. The harbor office phone is 907-472-2327 per the city transient form and OSM (a chamber map lists 907-472-2330 ext 6, so confirm which is current). I could not confirm the harbor's working VHF channel (unconfirmed). Showers and toilets are reported in the two-story harbor building. NOAA's Whittier gauge gives a mean range of 9.8 ft and a great diurnal range of 12.2 ft. Check the NWS marine forecast before leaving.
