Blackstone Bay (Prince William Sound)
60° 45.5′ N · 148° 33.4′ W
A glacier-lined bay reached from Passage Canal with tidewater, alpine and hanging glaciers, popular with tour boats from Whittier. One kayak account calls Beloit Glacier the most active of the three glaciers it visited.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM bay point (a USGS name position). A paddlers' guide warns that strong down-slope winds are common and that a riptide area lies at the south end of Willard Island, and reports the bay as a VHF dead zone (an older guide, so unconfirmed). Traffic is heavy in tourist season. Tour boats from Whittier visit Blackstone Bay on glacier cruises. The nearest NOAA tide gauge (Blackstone Bay) lists a great diurnal range of 12.1 ft. I found no anchorage details for the bay in the sources I could read.
