Vieux Fort Anchorage
13° 43.3′ N · 60° 57.6′ W · approximate
The broad bay off St Lucia's southernmost town, beside Hewanorra International Airport, used mainly to drop off or collect crew; Noonsite advises avoiding it, and never staying overnight, because of past armed boardings.
Practical
Position is in Vieux Fort Bay west of the commercial port, derived from the OpenStreetMap coastline (approx); Noonsite gives the harbour entrance as 13°43.28'N, 60°57.37'W. Options (Noonsite, March 2024): off the commercial ship dock, beside the Fisheries Complex, inside the small-craft port about two cables north-west of the commercial dock behind a large breakwater (security on the gate, a minute's walk from town, the easiest dinghy landing), or in the south-east corner of the bay. Security: daytime break-ins and night-time incidents have been reported for over a decade, including armed attacks; in January 2014 a British cruiser was killed by armed boarders while berthed at the Vieux Fort seaport. Noonsite: if you must come for the airport, keep crew aboard at all times, lock everything, hide valuables and do not spend the night; use Soufrière instead for clearance. OpenStreetMap charts a wreck ('El Pirata') at about 13.7296°N, 60.9721°W west of the bay.
