Laborie Anchorage

13° 44.9′ N · 61° 0.1′ W · approximate

A quiet bay off the south-coast fishing village of Laborie, originally named for the loggerhead turtles found here, with a jetty, Rudy John Beach and a village life far from the charter fleets.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap node for Laborie Bay, about 300 m off the village (approx). No moorings, yacht facilities or published approach notes were found in the sources used: the south coast is exposed to the Atlantic swell wrapping round the island and to the trades, so treat this as a settled-weather daytime stop and approach with current charts and good light. Land the dinghy at the Laborie Jetty (OpenStreetMap). Rudy John Beach, one of the island's best according to a Laborie resident quoted by the tourism authority, is at the west end of the village. Small shops and a market square in the village; the nearest port of entry is Vieux Fort. Morne Le Blanc, a hill above the village used as a WWII radar site, gives a panoramic view.
