The Carenage (St George's)
12° 3.0′ N · 61° 45.2′ W · approximate
The Carenage is the horseshoe-shaped inner harbour of St George's, ringed by red-roofed Georgian warehouses on the rim of an old volcanic crater. On the waterfront stands Christ of the Abyss, a bronze statue given by Genoa's Costa Line to thank Grenadians for rescuing the passengers of the burning Bianca C in 1961.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap Carenage waterfront road (approx). The Carenage is reserved for commercial vessels, ferries and small cruise ships, so dinghy in from the Lagoon instead. Sails Restaurant sits on the waterfront below the fort. The Osprey Lines ferry to Carriacou leaves from Wharf Road on the Carenage. Wikivoyage (January 2023) gives fares of EC$80 for adults and EC$50 for children, cash only. The Sendall Tunnel runs under the fort knoll to Church Street. It has no sidewalk, so walk back over Young Street instead. The Grenada National Museum and the House of Chocolate are on Young Street, a block inland.
