Pirates Bay Moorings (Charlotteville)

11° 19.8′ N · 60° 33.2′ W · approximate

Twenty maintained moorings laid by the Environmental Research Institute Charlotteville (ERIC) off Pirates Bay and along Buccary Reef: the only secure, maintained yacht moorings on Tobago, with the fees supporting village projects.

Practical

Position is the centre of Mooring Area 1 off Pirates Bay, derived from ERIC's published mooring-map overlay (approx); Mooring Area 2, alongside Buccary Reef further south toward the jetty, centres near 11.3266, -60.5510. ERIC (tobago-moorings.com): Area 1 holds moorings 1-9, 19 and 20 in 6 m near shore to 16 m further out; Area 2 holds moorings 10-18 in 10-15 m; at least 40 m between buoys; inspected every three months; anchoring inside the mooring areas is not permitted. Moorings take boats up to 80 ft. Book and pay in advance online at tobago-moorings.com, or email ericexpeditions@eric-tobago.org (phone +1 868 660 6758). Fees per Doyle (January 2023), in US$: up to 40 ft US$12/night for up to 6 nights or US$250/month; 41-60 ft US$16/night or US$320/month; 61-80 ft US$20/night or US$400/month; weekly rates lower (verify locally). Noforeignland reviewers report occasional booking mix-ups, with boats assigned buoys that were already occupied, so confirm your number. A snorkelling and diving zone lies inshore of Area 1, and a coral and oyster-farming area lies to its north: keep dinghies and anchors out.
