Man-o-War Bay Anchorage (Charlotteville)

11° 19.7′ N · 60° 33.4′ W · approximate

A big, deep, rainforest-ringed bay at Tobago's north-east tip, with the fishing village of Charlotteville on its shore and a loyal community of long-stay cruisers.

Practical

Position is a point in the open bay west of the ERIC mooring areas, derived from the ERIC mooring map and the OpenStreetMap coastline (approx). Deep: Noonsite (January 2023 docking notes) says anchor north of an imaginary line from the end of the town jetty to the northern point of Pirates Bay, never inside it; inside 40 ft you are on coral, while 45-60 ft gives a sandy ledge with good holding on proper scope. It is a little shallower off the town beach but more exposed to swell. The breeze is steadier and the bugs fewer north of the line. Do not anchor in the two ERIC mooring areas or in the 'community area' between them, which is kept for artisanal fishing and where yacht anchoring is discouraged; fishermen will also ask you to move from the Pirates Bay cove. A March 2026 noforeignland review suggests anchoring in Man-o-War Bay may no longer be allowed at all; check with ERIC or Customs on arrival. Allow swinging room: odd currents swing boats unpredictably. No black-water discharge in the bay. Charlotteville is a port of entry; its permit covers the north coast from Castara Bay to Prince's Bay.
