Mount Irvine Reef Snorkel
11° 11.8′ N · 60° 48.0′ W · approximate
The rocky western side of Mount Irvine Bay, toward Rocky Point, drops into the shallow Mount Irvine Wall: cuts and channels with octopus, moray eels, batfish and the odd seahorse, close to a calm anchorage.
Practical
Position is a point in the bay south of Rocky Point (NGA GeoNames 11.19849, -60.79757), about 200 m off the OpenStreetMap coastline (approx). DAN describes the wall at 18-45 ft with cuts and narrow channels, a large orange seahorse, shortnose batfish, octopus and morays, with surge above 20 ft; Discover T&T notes hawksbill turtles. Snorkellers stay on the shallow top; dive boats use the deeper wall (see Mount Irvine Wall Dive). Snorkel from the Mount Irvine anchorage (sand, 7-20 ft per noforeignland). In the November-February swell season the point becomes Tobago's main surf break: do not snorkel near it then. The beach has a lifeguard, a fish market and food stalls (Discover T&T).
