Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park
12° 5.0′ N · 61° 45.9′ W
The Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park opened in 2006 as the world's first underwater sculpture park: Jason deCaires Taylor's ring of 26 children holding hands (Vicissitudes), a man at a typewriter and dozens of other figures, now crusted in coral in 2–12 m of water.
Practical
Position is the Wikipedia/GeoHack coordinate. The park lies inside the Molinère-Beauséjour Marine Protected Area, about 2 miles north of St George's. Visitors pay the Marine Protected Park Fee, which can be paid online through the GTA. Noforeignland reviewers report four white mooring balls near the statues, collected by a local boat at about US$15 a night (not dated, so verify locally); some pendants were old, so inspect before trusting. Depths: Vicissitudes about 5 m, other works 2–8 m, maximum 12 m (Wikipedia, GTA). Snorkel early, before the dive boats and glass-bottoms arrive. Do not touch or stand on the sculptures. Mornings in settled trades are best, and it is rolly in northerly swell.
Best for
The headline snorkel of Grenada
Season
Year-round in settled trades; avoid in northerly ground swell
