Martinique Hurricane Season and Le Marin Summer Storage
14° 27.5′ N · 60° 52.2′ W · approximate
June to November is cyclone season. Many cruisers leave boats ashore at Le Marin or on its moorings, while others go south to Grenada, which many insurers require.
Practical
Coordinates are approximate, at the Le Marin cyclone holes. The marina says Martinique is exposed to cyclone risk every year from June to November, and Noonsite gives July to November as the peak. SailboatLiveaboard warns that Martinique offers no cyclone-grade shelter. The traditional Le Marin cyclone holes may only be used once a cyclone alert is declared. Marina berth-holders must follow the cyclone instructions: extra and elastic lines, sails and canvas off, dinghy aboard, anchors out in some berth runs, and cyclone insurance. Stargazer stayed on a monthly Le Marin mooring through August 2026, kept the boat ready to leave in 2-3 hours, and saw 40-knot squalls from the remnants of Invest 92. Check your insurance's hurricane-season clause. Stargazer's 2023 policy required them to be in Grenada before June 1. Haul-out at Carénantilles is popular, so book early.
